David M. Hern, DMD of South Easton, died unexpectedly on January 21, 2019 following a lengthy illness. He is survived by Mary (Nerbonne) Hern, his beloved wife of 59 years. He was the proud father of Matthew D. and his wife Mallory of Malibu, CA, Dr. Kathleen M. and her wife Teri Mae Rutledge of Oakland, CA and Kiara Garcia of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by his dearly loved grandchildren, Jamison, Emiliano, Emanuel and Georgia.
David graduated from Brockton High School with the Class of 1953, received his BS degree from Stonehill College in 1957 and his DMD degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1961.
He served a tour in the United States Air Force (S.A.C.) following graduation and then maintained a general dentistry practice in Brockton for fifty two years. David was also a member of the faculty at Tufts for thirty-five years, attaining the position of Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics where he was the Director of Patient Simulation and Clinical Complete Dentures. The 2016 student Academic Excellence Award was given in his honor.
In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, David leaves his devoted nephews and nieces, his dear professional colleagues, the members of the South Shore Supper Club, his faithful patients and his golfing partners. David will be eternally grateful to Mary for her extraordinary care throughout his extensive illnesses.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday, January 25, 2019 from 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Saturday at 9am for a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10am. Burial will follow in South Easton Cemetery, South Easton, MA.
