Obituary

Six days short of her 97th birthday, Victoria “Vicki” Garcia passed away at her home in Ventura surrounded by family and lots of love. Vicki was born in Fresno, CA, on January 20, 1922 to Alejandro Baca and Victoria Aguirre Baca. One of 11 siblings, Vicki was raised in Saticoy, attended elementary school in Saticoy and graduated from Ventura High School.

In 1946 she married Joaquin “Jack” Garcia from Humboldt, Kansas and enjoyed 71 years of a loving marriage and settled in Ventura where they raised their three daughters.

Vicki, an administrative secretary, retired from the County of Ventura after working for the Public Social Services Agency for 25 years. After her ‘retirement’ from the county, she worked in a number of clerical capacities and organizations including Oxnard Police Dept., Oxnard City Attorney’s Office, and Ventura City Attorney’s Office. Then pursuing her interest in working with children, she was employed by the Santa Paula School District as a teacher’s assistant. In addition, she worked as an interpreter for vocational rehab counseling services. She enjoyed her work as an Elections poll worker through her late 80s.

Vicki was a volunteer reader with the Ventura Adult Literacy Program, as well as a volunteer at Sacred Heart Church in Ventura where she, along with Jack, was an active parishioner for many years. She was also a member of the Saticoy Historical Society and the Saticoy Lionettes. She enjoyed a multitude of crafts, was an excellent seamstress, cook, and baker.

Vicki was her grandchildren’s biggest fan as they participated in high school sports including Santa Barbara High School swimming and St. Bonaventure Seraph football. She also loved listening to music, and she and Jack were great dancing partners and didn’t hesitate to accept an invitation to anything that included music and/or dancing. It was music that lifted Vicki’s spirit, even to the last day of her life.
Vicki is survived by her three daughters Betty Patterson and her husband Ed of Cathedral City, Alice Garcia of Michoacán, Mexico, and Peggy Garcia Castor of Ventura; grandchildren: Stephanie Patterson Bowen (Tim), Jenny Patterson Santana (Eduardo), Tony Ordonez (Christina), Alex Ordonez (Samantha), and Nina Fujikawa; great grandchildren: Lexy Bowen, Benicio Patterson, Diego Patterson, Dane Ordonez, and Ava Ordonez; and brothers Daniel Baca and George Baca.

Vicki was predeceased by her husband Jack; great-granddaughter Cassidy Bowen; parents Alejandro Baca and Victoria Aguirre Baca; brothers Edward Baca, David Baca, Robert Baca, Alejandro Baca, and Alex Baca; sisters Vera Chandler, Lydia Fairchild, and Gloria Baca.

The family would also like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Rose Room Hospice. In addition, the family would like to share their deepest appreciation to the very special and devoted caregivers who tenderly and lovingly cared for Vicki for the last several years.

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura, CA, on Friday, January 25, 2019. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am followed by Mass at 10 am. Interment will be private.
