Obituary

Marcia A. (Silva) Cruz, 70, of Taunton passed away Wednesday January 16, 2019 after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Silvestra "Sylvia" Silva, she was raised in New Bedford and lived in Brockton and Taunton for many years. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Marcia was formerly employed as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration in Brockton until her retirement. She later worked at the Epilepsy Foundation Donation Center in Taunton.
She had been a volunteer for the Big Sister Program for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and being a mentor to many younger individuals and dispensing her own special brand of wisdom. She was known for her unique sense of humor and her exquisite sense of style.
She is survived by her son Christopher J. Cruz and his companion Brigitt Neary of Brockton; her sister, Marie Robinson and her fiancé, Lawrence Tobey of New Bedford; her grandchildren, Sierra and Jalen Cruz; her aunts, Rose Almeida and Dorothy Gomes; her cousins, Cynthia Gomes and Elayne Gomes-Battle and her husband David, and their children, Alyssa and Adrianna Battles; and a dedicated family friend, Donald Watson.
She was predeceased by her son, Jamal F. Cruz, her sister, Dolores "Cookie" Silva, her grandparents, Maria "Baba" Barros and Gregorio Silva; and her uncles, Jose "Rookie" Almeida and Jose "Dje Dje" Gomes.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday January 22, 2019 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption at 9 AM.
