CHICOPEE ~ Claire R. (Deslauriers) Fournier, 86, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on November 17, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Lionel and Gertrude (Ford) Deslauriers. She was raised in the Willimansett section of Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and lived in Chicopee her entire life, moving to Aldenville in 1998. She was employed as a counter clerk at the former Lapite’s Sweet Shoppe in Willimansett for 27 years and previously worked in the cafeteria for the Chicopee School Department and at Greg’s Place in Willimansett. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. During her leisure time, she enjoyed swimming at the Elms College and playing bingo at the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, both in Chicopee. Above all, Claire loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Roland L. Fournier who was Called Home on December 8, 2013. They were married on May 30, 1953 at the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Willimansett and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving sons, Roland L. Fournier, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Chicopee, Gary R. Fournier and his wife, Brenda, of North Rutland, VT and David P. Fournier of Chicopee; her seven cherished grandchildren, Brian Fournier and his wife, Lorin, Christopher Fournier, Stephanie Dufresne and her husband, James, Brett Sharp and his wife, Amelia, Amy Hathaway and her husband, David, Timothy Fournier and his wife, Kim, Leighann Notarangelo and her husband, David; her 13 cherished great-grandchildren, Dylan Fournier, Olivia Fournier, MacKenzie and Nathan Russo, Kelsey and Kiersten Dufresne, Ethan and Aiden Sharp, Caitlyn and Andrew Hathaway,Tanner and Jake Fournier and Jack Notarangelo; her dear sister, Shirley A. Sawyer of Chicopee; her dear sister-in-law, Mary Deslauriers of South Carolina; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Fournier and Deslauriers family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her cherished grandson, Gary D. Fournier who was Called Home on October 3, 1980; and her dear brother, Lionel C. Deslauriers, Jr. Her family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
