Harriet Gordon Blanchard died peacefully surrounded by her family on January 12, 2019, at the age of 97. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Gordon of Brockton, MA, until his death in 1978, and then of Albert R. Blanchard, of Barnstable, MA, until his death in 2005.
A graduate of Bridgewater State Teachers College, she taught second grade at the Woodward School for Girls in Boston, MA. Harriet had a curious and creative mind. A lifelong learner, she pursued many interests and volunteered throughout her adult life. She was an accomplished seamstress, Nantucket basket weaver, and floral designer, exhibiting at Horticultural Hall, the Boston Flower & Garden Show, and Art in Bloom at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She taught adult education sewing and was a New England Flower show judge. She was a member of Brockton’s Thursday Club and the Osterville and Easton Garden Clubs, and a former president of the Brockton chapters of the Parent Teacher Organization and Visiting Nurse Association.
She is survived by her identical twin sister, Juliet Carlson; her three daughters, Janet Bain and husband Samuel of Dover, MA, Carol Mara of Falmouth, MA, and Debra Gordon of Providence, RI; and her eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service in celebration of her life on Friday, February 8th at 11:00 AM at the Linden Ponds Derby Clubhouse, 300 Linden Ponds Way, Hingham, MA.
