Catherine Margaret (Lester) High, 63, of Gorham, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin, surrounded by her family. She was born in Sherbrook, Quebec on January 13, 1955 the daughter of the late Wilbert Lester and Grace Emma Blanchard. An Army wife, Catherine lived in many places, but Gorham was her home. A very strong, funny and handy woman, Catherine remodeled her entire home and the home of her daughter. She enjoyed working with her hands, tending bar at the Androscoggin Valley Country Club in Gorham, hiking, crafts, and taking walks in the fall, which was her favorite time of year. She truly cared about people, was an attentive listener, she freely gave advice to those she knew made friendships that were deep and meaningful. Most of all she loved her family and was a truly amazing grandmother.
Members of the family include her children Vicki High of Mt. Kisco, NY, Rob High of Berlin and Courtney High of Berlin; grandchildren Robby High, Abel High, Gianna Nolletti, Kali Blais, Mariah Gorman and Ashley LaPointe; former husband and friend Robert High of Whitefield, NH; sister Norma Paget of Thornhill, Ontario; brother Charlie Lester of S. Durham, Quebec; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother James Lester.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 1:00 PM. There will be no calling hours. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the St. Anne Cemetery in Richmond, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation in Catherine’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 29 Providence Ave., Berlin, NH 03570 or to the Maynard House, 17 South Street, Hanover, NH 03755 or www.maynardhouse.org.
