Gerald D. De Veer
Retired I.B.E.W. Electrician

TEWKSBURY: Gerald D. De Veer, age 73, a resident of Tewksbury for 48 years, formerly of Malden, passed away at home on Saturday, January 12, 2019.

He was the beloved husband of Linda (Johnstone) De Veer, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 4, 2018.

Born in Malden on August 26, 1945, he was the son of the late Richard S. De Veer and the late Kathleen (Fitzgibbons) De Veer.

Gerald was raised in Medford, where he attended St. James Parochial School, Robert Junior High School, and graduated from Medford High School in 1964. He later attended Bentley College.

In 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served during the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Northampton.

Prior to his retirement, he worked as an electrician for I.B.E.W. Local # 103 for 50 years.

Gerald was a member of the Fr. Francis Coppens Council # 4336 Knights of Columbus in Tewksbury, the Tewksbury D.A.V. Post # 110, and the Tewksbury American Legion.

He enjoyed watching sports, gardening and working around the house and yard. He most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren at their annual weekend trip to Maine.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Jacqueline C. Heaton and her husband William of Litchfield, NH, Gerald D. V. De Veer and his wife Erica of North Conway, NH, and R. Scott De Veer of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler, Josh De Veer, Timothy and Caitlin Heaton, Gianna and Izabella De Veer; siblings, John De Veer of Dunwoody, GA, Rev. Richard De Veer, Rosemary De Veer and Kathleen Daly and her husband William all of Falmouth; also many nieces, nephews and extended family members.


Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 17 from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Prayer services will be held Friday, January 18, at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
