Limington - Barbara Helene Holmes, 86, of Limington passed peacefully in the early morning of January 12, 2019 after an evening surrounded by those she loved. She was born in Waltham, Mass. on July 10, 1932 a daughter of George and Berta (Reidle) Higgins. She settled in Limington, Maine where she married Howard Minot Holmes on May 1, 1965 and raised her two sons, Russell and Matthew.
Along with maintaining a small farm and operating an apple orchard with her husband, Barbara enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, going swimming, berry picking, and making jam, jelly and homemade wine. She especially enjoyed riding her Honda scooter all around town, often as far as Kezar Falls to bowl in the women's coffee league. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Jake and Jacklyn, and many neighborhood children throughout the years.
Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Howard Minot Holmes; her infant son, Jeffery Holmes; and her brother, George Higgins. She is survived by her sons, Russell Holmes and girlfriend Bonnie Houghton of Hiram, and Matthew Holmes of Limington; her grandson, Jake Holmes and wife Cassidy of Limington; her granddaughter, Jacklyn Holmes and boyfriend Dominic Locke of Orono; Two brothers, Robert Higgins of Limerick and Peter Higgins of Rehoboth, Mass. as well as many nieces and nephews.
