CHICOPEE ~ Dorothy A. (Foisy) Davitt, 93, a former longtime resident of Silvin Road in the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. She passed into Eternal Life at her home at Landmark at Monastery Heights in West Springfield surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Meriden, Connecticut on June 17, 1925, a beloved daughter of the late John F. and Josephine (Desport) Foisy. She was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke High School and had lived in Holyoke until moving to Chicopee in the late 1950’s. She was a communicant of the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Willimansett and currently was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. Dorothy was last employed as an Administrative Assistant in the Maternity Department at the former Providence Hospital in Holyoke and previously worked at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley. She was a longtime volunteer at WestMass Eldercare in Holyoke. During her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint and working on jigsaw puzzles. Above all, she loved spending time with her loving family and her many dear friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Stephen J. Davitt, Sr. who was Called Home on October 4, 1981. They were married on February 8, 1947 at the former Precious Blood Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 34 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving children, Stephen J. Davitt, Jr. and his wife, Karen Garner-Davitt, of Collierville, TN, Matthew O. Davitt and his partner, Melissa Polom, of Jamestown, RI, and Laurie A. Mozeleski and her husband, Gary, of Chicopee; her dear daughter-in-law, Rita Davitt of Bloomington, IL; her 13 cherished grandchildren, Andrew Davitt and his wife, Theresa, Aaron Davitt and his wife, Jennie, Benjamin Davitt and his wife, Tanya, Peter Davitt, Christopher Davitt, Jennifer Davitt, Chelsea Davitt, Katherine Whitney and her husband, David, Lindsey Davitt, Matthew Davitt, Joshua Mozeleski, Stephen Mozeleski and his wife, Rebecca, and Melissa Turgeon; her 13 cherished great-grandchildren; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Davitt and Foisy families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her beloved son, James T. Davitt who was Called Home on October 26, 2009; her four dear sisters, Eva, Evelyn, Georgiana and her twin, Doris; and her dear brother, John. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, January 18, 2019 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. before the Mass.
