Jane Chisholm Hofe (83) of Mystic CT, Block Island RI, and formerly
of Morristown NJ, died on January 8.
Jane was born March 8, 1935 in Providence, RI to Sydney and Thelma Chisholm.
She attended the Red Stone School House in Sudbury, MA - The school of “Mary
Had a Little Lamb” fame, and later the Lincoln School for girls in Providence RI.
She graduated from her beloved Wellesley College in 1957 and began work in the
advertising department for Jordan Marsh in Boston.
Soon after Jane and Dean F. Hofe were married in 1962, they purchased their
property on Block Island RI. She was a devoted mother to her four children and
raised a very tight knit family. This summer home on Block Island has sustained
and nurtured the family for almost 60 years.
Jane was a longtime volunteer at the Mendham Twp Library and a member of the
St. Bernard’s Church Altar Guild in Bernardsville NJ. Most recently she was a
resident at StoneRidge where she was actively involved in the chorus and
volunteered within the community. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzler and
gardener. Singing and barbershop harmony has always been a source of joy and
comfort to her.
Jane is survived by her four children; Caroline and her husband Ross Nowak;
Catherine and her husband Robert Ogden; Charlotte and her husband Adam
Chodosh; Chisholm and his wife Sarah Dangelas and nine grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband Dean and sister Frances LaFrance North.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 2, at 10:30am at St. Mark’s
Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial on Block Island will be held at a
later date.
