Dorothy E. (Dion) “Dolly” Ratcliffe, age 85, of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the presence of her loving family on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert O. “Whitey” Ratcliffe, to whom she was wed for sixty-four years at the time of his death on February 1, 2015.
Born in Taunton, MA on October 13, 1933, she was a loving daughter of the late Raymond Dion and Louise (Sarvia) Koss.
Dolly grew up and was educated in Taunton. She had made her home in Norton for over sixty years and prior to retiring had been employed for ten years as the Activities Director at the Taunton Nursing Home. She had formerly worked at the former Country Haven Nursing Home in Norton for many years and was a member of the Activities Directors Association of Massachusetts.
Dolly was a kind-hearted woman who loved spending time with her family and was well known for helping others and cheering up the moral of the elderly patients she cared for. She was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton and a former member of the women’s guild. Her hobbies included arts & crafts.
She is survived by her devoted sons: Paul W. Ratcliffe of Norton, Brian D. Ratcliffe and his wife Nancy of Taunton, Bruce D. Ratcliffe and his wife Jane of Ashby and Albert O. Ratcliffe of Florida. She was the cherished grandmother of Brian “Dustin” Ratcliife and his wife Jessica, Brooke Ratcliffe, Nathan Ratcliffe and Matthew Ratcliffe and great grandmother of Sophia Ratcliffe and Lilli Ratcliffe. She was the dear sister of Kay Lynch of Florida, Natalie Wells of California, Jean Morrison of Taunton, Bernice Depot of Norton and the late Raymond Dion and Louise Volner. She is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will begin on Monday, January 14th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 13th from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Dolly’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Community Visiting Nurse Agency, Inc., 10 Emory St., Attleboro, MA 02703.
