Vernon H. "Johnny" Nagles, 62, of Chula died Wednesday, December 21, 2005, from injuries received in a vehicle accident. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 23, 2005, at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Dean McKinney will officiate with burial to follow in Madedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Chula. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson.
Mr. Nagles was born on September 7, 1943, in Sumner and was the son of the late Dewey Galvester Nagles, who died in 1986, and Lettie Lou Gay Nagles, who died in 2000. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Sumner and Cortez Baker. Mr. Nagles was employed by Tift County as a motor grader operator and worked with the Tift County Fire Department approximately 30 years ago. He was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Ashburn and had lived in Tift County all of his life.
Mr. Nagles is survived by his long-time companion, Brittie Holloway Jackson of Chula; one daughter, Dee Fowler of Land of Lakes, FL; one brother, George Humbert Nagels of Chula; and three sisters, Hazel Bragg of Tifton, Shirley Nagles of Tifton and Dorothy Shirah of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Extended family includes Nathan and Winfred Dowdy and Sandra Holton.
