Maj. Jere Irving Huyck (U.S. Army Ret.), 74, of Sandown, NH, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019, at Parkland Medical Center in Derry. Jere was born January 16, 1944, in Alpena, MI, and was a son of the late Wendell I. and Nona (Gagnon) Huyck. He was raised and educated in Alpena. He was a graduate of the United States Military Academy, class of 1966, in West Point, NY. Jere enjoyed living on Angle Pond in Sandown for many years, having previously resided in Hudson and Bedford, NH.
Maj. Huyck served during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star for combat action. He retired from the Army in 1986, after 21 years of honorable service. He was a competitive cribbage player and enjoyed playing poker with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lane, of Sandown, a son and his wife, Major General Kevin and Patty Huyck of Langley AFB, VA., a daughter, Andrea Huyck of Homer, AK, his many beautiful grandchildren, a brother, Paul Huyck, and a sister, Jeanne Ludlow. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jo Swan, and is now resting peacefully with his beloved wife of 27 years, Paula (Pluchos) Huyck.
Memorial calling hours were held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. A luncheon was held from 4-6 pm at the American Legion Post #27, 4 Sargent Rd. in Londonderry. Military Honors were held at 6:00 pm at the start of evening calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, 139 Winter St., Tilton, NH 03276.
