Dessie Marie Stone Carpenter, 94, of Tifton passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Steve Hand and the Rev. Brantley Seymour officiating. Mrs. Carpenter will be laid to rest at Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals on Monday, January 7, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
John Laster, Chance Carpenter, Ben Salter, Phil Salter, Bill Osborne, Chip Osborne and Bo Carpenter will serve as pallbearers.
Born April 29, 1924 in Brookfield, Mrs. Carpenter was the daughter of the late James Authur Stone and Flonnie Childers Stone. She was also preceded in death by her husband, W. C. Carpenter, Jr.; three brothers, Arlen Stone, Jay Stone and Cecil Stone; a son-in-law, Billy Joe Laster; and a great-grandson, Josh Salter. She was a member of Vanceville Congregational Christian Church. She was a homemaker and business partner to W. C. Carpenter, Jr.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joel Franklin and Joyce Carpenter of Ashburn; one daughter, Sandra Laster of Tifton; two brothers, Raiford Stone and Randall Stone, both of Tifton; four sisters, Inez Weldon of Brookfield, Oleda Edge of Doerun, Wylene Webb of Vanceville and Faye Haynes of New Jersey; six grandchildren and their spouses, Debbie and Phil Salter, Cindy and Bill Osborne, Connie Laster, John Laster, Bo and Jennifer Carpenter and Lee Wideman; eleven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
