Charles F. Jenkins, 76, of New Bedford, died on December 14, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief hospitalization. Born in Cohasset, the son of the late Charles F. and Mary Ellen (Gallagher) Jenkins, he resided in New Bedford for the past 25 years.
Charlie will be deeply missed by his adult foster care family; Kevin Jones, Alyssa Lynch and Emily Jones, as well as their extended families with whom he shared a home and life with for the past 25 years.
He enjoyed drawing, watching old movies and sports on TV, afternoon naps, coffee, and big family dinners.
Charlie was supported by several agencies over the years including: Better Community Living, Family Service Associates, Active Day, and Community Connections, Inc. He attended Active Day of New Bedford up until the time of his hospitalization.
Charlie is also survived by his sister Rosemary Varga, his brother Paul, and his sister-in-law M. Jean McAdams-Jenkins, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Daniel G. Jenkins.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday January 7, 2019 from 5-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford, with a Prayer Service to be held at 7:30 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie's memory to a charity of your choosing that supports people with disabilities.
