David W. Britton, 61, of New Bedford, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Jill (Miller) Britton, and dedicated father to three girls he adored, Nicole (Britton) Manning, Ashley Britton and Katie (Britton) Camara. He leaves behind his six grandchildren with whom he loved with all of his heart, Arianna, Avangeline, Aubrey, Alivia, Fiona and Maxwell. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Jane Britton; sister Susan and her husband Michael Levasseur and her children Amy and Brett; brother Robert and his wife Michelle and daughter Emily; sons-in-law Timothy Manning, Eric Camara and Nicholas Braga; Jill’s parents James F. & Janet Miller; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren and friends, including his life long best friend Robbie Gomes. David was predeceased by his father, Walter A. Britton Jr.
David was a hardworking family man who loved to travel and spend time with his grandchildren. He most enjoyed road trips with Jill down to Florida, family vacations with all of the grandchildren, going on early morning car rides to ‘hunt for deer’ and firing up the grill at any and all family events. He dedicated 35 years to the Local 40 Carpenters Union, and spent 34 years of his career with Bond Brothers, serving in various carpentry and supervisory roles within the company.
He will be remembered for his amazing smile and kind and compassionate heart. His legacy of kindness, love and humor is one that will live on with anyone he has ever encountered.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford at 10 AM.
