Sweeney, Ruth V. After celebrating her 100th birthday in October, Ruth Virginia Sweeney passed away peacefully on January 1, 2019 at the Elizabeth Seton Residence surrounded by her children.

Ruth was born in New York City on October 14, 1918 and epitomized the “Greatest Generation” living through the Depression and World War II, while her husband, Bill, served in the Pacific Theater during the war. After the war, Ruth and Bill lived on Long Island and raised their three children in Cold Spring Harbor. After they retired, Ruth and Bill enjoyed many years in Sarasota, Florida making new friends, playing golf and enjoying the beautiful weather. After Bill passed away, Ruth relocated to Fox Hill Village in Westwood, MA to be closer to family. More recently, she moved to Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley where she received extraordinary care. She is survived by her three children, William Sweeney Jr. (Janet) of Plymouth, MA, Jeanne Conroy (Denis) of Newton, MA and Dr. Kevin Sweeney (Ann), of Charlottesville, VA, as well as ten grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, January 5 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Wellesley. Memorial donations in honor of Ruth may be made to the Employee Fund at Elizabeth Seton Residence, 125 Oakland Street, Wellesley, MA 02481.
