Limerick - Irene DesVergnes, 82, of Limerick peacefully passed at her home on January 1, 2019 surrounded by loving family. She was born in Pont-A-Mousson, France on April 9, 1936 a daughter of Edmond and Victoria (Maciaszek) Ryng. She grew up and attended schools in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France then moved to the United States at age 14 after World War 2.
Irene married Ernest DesVergnes on April 26, 1958. She and Ernest worked and raised their family in Attleboro, Mass. She first worked in a jewelry shop, and later as a hairdresser for many years. Her brothers and sisters lived all over the world, and in 1976 they were all reunited in Attleboro together for the first time since the war, a reunion that Irene always cherished.
They retired to Limerick, Maine in the early 1990's. Irene was a devoted member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Limerick. Spending time with her large, loving family was most important to her.
Irene is predeceased by her beloved husband Ernest who died in 2015. Surviving are 2 daughters, Anne Marie Bowser and husband William of Scarborough, and Vivianne Mendes and husband Richard of Virginia. 4 sons: Daniel and wife Shelley of Buxton, Philippe and wife Kristen of Florida, Paul and wife Justyna of Virginia, and Andre and wife Christine of Limerick. A sister, Rose Sujdak of Florida. Also 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be on Saturday, January 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 19 Dora Lane, Limerick, ME. 04048. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Matthew's Church. Burial will be at a private ceremony next to her husband at Southern Maine Veteran's Cemetery in Springvale. Arrangements are by Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, Cornish.
