Obituary

New Bedford – Eleanor D. (White) Townsend, 87, of East Freetown died Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Southeastern Massachusetts Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was the widow of Robert D. Townsend.

She was born in East Freetown, daughter of the late Everett A. and Bernise D. (Lawrence) White and had resided in East Freetown since 1959. An alumnus of Framingham State College class of 1939, she graduated with a B.S. in home economics. Prior to her retirement in 1974, she was a schoolteacher for the Town of Acushnet for 21 years. She was a member of Long Plain United Methodist Church, Acushnet and a former member of the East Freetown United Methodist Church. Mrs. Townsend was a member of the Acushnet Retired Teachers Association and enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, knitting, reading, rug braiding and traveling.

She is survived by 4 daughters: Elizabeth D. Ashley of East Freetown, Nancy E. Desautels of Montville, ME, Marilyn E. Robbins of East Freetown and Jane D. DeChambeau of East Freetown; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Lawrence A. White.

Funeral on Saturday, December 24, 2005 at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours Friday 5 – 8 P.M.

Interment will be in White Cemetery, East Freetown.
