Paul William Ingle, 90, of Mystic, died peacefully at home on January 1, 2019. Born in Rhode Island, he spent his early days sailing on Narragansett Bay and his retirement years sailing on Fisher’s Island Sound, always eager to share his love of the water with friends and family.
As a young man, after serving a yearlong tour of duty in Korea, he married Sally Fish, gained his degree in Mechanical Engineering at URI, and took his father-in-law’s advice to “Go West” to heart, beginning his career in Los Angeles, California. Returning to the East Coast in 1959, Paul and his family settled in Connecticut, where he was employed by Hamilton Standard as an aerospace engineer until his retirement in 1988.
He took great pleasure in sharing his hobbies with his children, teaching them to sail, ski, draw, and build, and his talents for scrimshaw, ship model building, painting, and wood carving were unsurpassed. He lost Sally, his wife of 64 years, in 2017, but he never lost his smile and gentle humor.
Paul is survived by his son, Paul William Ingle, Jr.; his daughter, Sarah Warren Ingle; and granddaughter, Noelle Sophia Ingle.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at the Union Baptist Church in Mystic at 11 AM on February 2, 2019. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mystic River Historical Society at PO Box 245, Mystic 06355. The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic is assisting the family.
