FALL RIVER… Rose Alma Couture, life long of Fall River, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 26th after a long life of 96 years. She was a proud French Canadian and was one of 6 children in her family. She was a woman of strong faith who lived her life with unshakable belief, loyalty and integrity. She cared for both her parents throughout their lives. She was predeceased by her one true love and fiancé, Albert, Al, Amaral at the early age of 66. She was never married but was loved as Auntie Rose to many children of her friends. Rose was a seamstress and worked as a garment worker for 46 years starting at age 16. She prided herself on her artistic abilities: oil painting, ceramics, and crocheting. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Each Christmas she displayed a roomful of her ceramic village houses and nativity that she had made. It was viewed and enjoyed by many and was once featured in the Fall River Herald News. She was an avid reader and a lover of music. She spent her 20’s dancing all the dances of the era every Saturday at Lincoln Park Ballroom. Rose loved to travel throughout the U.S. and Canada.
She is survived by a niece Annette Gamache of Dartmouth, beloved cousins Mona Zajack of Gaithersburg, MD and her daughter Suzanne Shinnick her daughter Stephanie Holleran and her husband Brendan and her son Declan. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and family including Godchild Dena Grota of N. Dighton (daughter of Mary Alves, Rose’s best friend for 43 years, and her 3 children Steven Grota, Angela Antonelli, and Holly Grota.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M. from the SOUTH COAST FUNERAL HOME, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River. Calling hours will be from 9:00 – 11:00. A. M. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
