Obituary

SALEM- Hilda M. (Szopka) Mello, age 83, wife of George C. Mello, of Salem, died Tuesday afternoon, December 20, 2005 in the Shaughnessy-Kaplan Hospital, Salem, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Frank & Teofila (Grabowska) Szopka.

Prior to her retirement earlier this year due to illness, she was employed by the Salem Witch Museum for over 28 years.

A lifelong resident of Salem, Mrs. Mello was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the Salem Council On Aging, and she enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Susan Mello of Peabody, Richard and Beverly Mello of Salem, 2 grandchildren, Kevin and Barry Mello of Peabody, 3 Great grandchildren, Alyssa Mello, Amber Mello and Anthony Mello, 2 step-grandchildren, Peter and Bradley Mickiewicz of Salem, 1 sister, Jane and her husband Ben Colomycki of Newburyport and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Sophia Clark.

Her funeral will be held Friday, December 23, 2005 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral mass at 10 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Burial is in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
