Louis B. Souza, 98, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Sunday, December 23rd, 2018 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Georgianna (Rego) Souza.
Born and raised in Dartmouth, he was son of the late Manuel B. Souza and Mary (Almeida) Souza. Mr. Souza worked his family owned Dutch Belt Dairy Farm. He was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport and was a member of the High Hill Fox and Coon Club in Dartmouth. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Louis retired at the age of 62 enjoying his winters in Zepherhills Florida and his summers in Harmony Maine where he lived for 26 years. Mr. Souza and his wife moved back to Dartmouth spending their last years with their family. Mr. Souza enjoyed raising gardens and chickens along with driving around town watching people fish up until this past summer. You could hear him saying being outdoors, watching plants grow was his best medicine.
Survivors include 3 sons: Joseph Souza and his wife Judith of Dartmouth, Carl Souza and his wife Susan of Fall river and Louis B. Souza Jr. and his companion Susan Viveiros of Dartmouth; 2 daughters: Pamela Tavares and her husband Randy of Dartmouth and LouAnn Brayton and her husband Gardner of Dartmouth; 3 brothers: John Souza of Westport, David Souza of NY and Daniel Souza of Westport; a sister, Gloria Santos of Dartmouth; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the grandfather of the late Todd Souza and brother of the late Manuel B. Souza, Antone B. Souza, Frank B. Souza, Joseph B. Souza, Mary Carvalho and Laura Reyckert.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will Thursday, January 3, 2019 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport at 10 AM.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday 5 - 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family would invite you to donate to Hope Evangelical Community Church (HECC) 88 Hathaway Road N. Dartmouth Ma 02747 in support of the Rt. 24 bus crash victims.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
