Obituary

Violeta (Saraiva) Fernandes, 93, of Dartmouth died Wednesday December 26, 2018 at Brookdale Dartmouth Village after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Edward R. Fernandes; they had been married for 67 years.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joaquim and Emilia (Teixeira) Saraiva, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Fernandes was formerly employed as a senior clerk for the New Bedford Public School Department until her retirement.
She was a former member of the Panthers Golden Agers and the St. Hedwig's Senior Citizens. She had also been an active volunteer for St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary for many years.
Her family would like to extend sincere thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice for the care and kindness shown to Violeta during her illness.
Survivors include three daughters, Madeline Macedo and her husband Dennis of New Bedford, Kathleen Gardner of South Windsor, CT, and Linda Ladino and her husband Robert of Dartmouth; seven grandchildren, Nathan Macedo, Kristen Macedo, James Ladino, Jacqueline Irzyk and her husband Benjamin, Jonathan Ladino, Beth Spital and her husband Daniel, and Michael Gardner and his wife Brittany; and nine great-grandchildren.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday December 29, 2018 at 8:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday December 28, 2018 from 3-7 PM.
