John F. Herring Jr., 76, of Natick died Monday, December 24, 2018 at the Metro West Medical Center in Framingham.
He was the beloved husband of the late Anne T. (Langan) Herring who died in 2017.
A Natick resident for 49 years he was born in Boston the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Chasson) Herring.
Mr. Herring was a Foreman and Master Plumber for Local 12 of the Massachusetts Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He took pride in his work on numerous large Boston building projects especially the Key Stone Office Towers. He also worked for the Stone and Webster Engineering Company until his retirement in 2007.
He was an avid Red Sox and Bruins, Patriots fan, studied history, enjoyed fishing, hunting, trips to Foxwoods and summers in Eastham.
John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and was happiest spending time with all in his family, and his cat Dilly.
Mr. Herring attend the Newton Schools system and graduated from Newman Preparatory School.
He was a Veteran in the United States Army serving in the 82 Airborne Division.
He is survived by his four children John F. Herring and his children, Brenna and Connor of Natick, Robert J. Herring and his son Shane, Marianne Forrest and her husband Paul and their children, Patrick, Paul and Caroline of Norwood, Patricia Finlay and her husband Ricky and their children Olivia and Robert of Framingham, his sister Betsy Herring and her daughter Melissa Dooley of Westbrook, Maine.
He is also survived by his sisters in law Mary Langan of Framingham, Priscilla McCoy of Manomet, Evelyn Coughlin of Natick, Mary Ellen Langan of Newton, very close cousin Tod Brown and his daughter Meg Bracken, and a large extended family of many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Mass on Friday December 28th, at 11:00 A.M. in St Patrick Church.
Visiting hours are Friday morning prior to the Mass from 9:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. in the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, at Natick Common. Interment Holyhood Cemetery, 584 Heath Street, Brookline.
