Roland W. Toyfair, 91, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Monday December 24, 2018 at the Oaks Nursing Home. He was the husband of Yvette C. (Dubois) Toyfair; they had been married for 70 years.
Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Philip and Lillian (Lemay) Toyfair, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Toyfair was formerly employed as a police officer for the New Bedford Police Department for 31 years until his retirement. He later was the bus driver for the Fairhaven Council on Aging.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and Occupied Japan.
Roland was an excellent horseshoe player and loved clamboils and family gatherings.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of The Oaks and Beacon Hospice for their dedication and love shown to Roland during his illness.
He is survived by his wife, Yvette; two children, Anne Pepin and her husband Mark of East Freetown and Thomas Toyfair and his wife Teresa of Agawam; six grandchildren, Spencer Pepin, Ashley Dunphy and her husband Matthew, Tyler Toyfair, Brian Pepin and his wife Erin, Eric Pepin, and Scott Pepin; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late William Toyfair and brother of the late Violet Mann and Lila Ellis.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday December 29, 2018 at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with visitation prior from 9-10 AM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
