Lester S. Epstein, Sr., age 91, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, December 24, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary R. (Prosper) Epstein, who died on March 4, 1998.
Born in Mansfield, MA on September 21, 1927, he was a loving son of the late Edward E. and Gladys M. (Sears) Epstein.
Les grew up in Mansfield and was a 1945 graduate of Mansfield High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII. Upon being honorably discharged from the service, he continued his education and graduated with an associate degree from the University of New Hampshire.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Epstein worked as a letter carrier for the Mansfield Post Office and previously had been employed for twenty-five years as a manager for the Singer Sewing Machine Company.
Lester’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the greatest joy in his life and he treasured the times spent with them at his second home in West Falmouth. Lester also dabbled in real estate, loved fishing and spending time at the beach.
He is survived by his devoted children: Lynda L. Bottachiari and her husband Robert of North Smithfield, RI, Lorrie A. Pimental and her husband Timothy of Mansfield, James M. Epstein and his wife of Linda of Mansfield and the late Lester S. Epstein, Jr. He was the dear brother of the late Edward “Clem” Epstein and George “Dodi” Epstein and is also survived by his cherished 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services along with burial at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
Visiting hours have been omitted and those wishing may remember Lester with a donation in his memory made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
