Obituary

Johnnie B. Moorhead, 94, of Fitzgerald, died December 22, 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Steve Hand officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm on Thursday at Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Moorhead was born on November 6, 1924 to the late John Henry Gossett and Sarah Jane Gossett in Phil Campbell, Alabama. She later moved to Fitzgerald where she married the late Henry Haynes Moorhead and they lived together for their sixty-six years of marriage. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Fitzgerald and a former member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Following her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling the country in their RV and Mrs. Moorhead enjoyed many volunteer activities including working as a candy striper at the hospital and volunteering as a poll worker on election day. Mrs. Moorhead was also a prolific cook; her fried chicken and cornbread dressing were renowned throughout South Georgia and beyond.

Mrs. Moorhead is survived by her daughter, Jane Caldwell, granddaughter, Julie Caldwell, great-grandson, Will Caldwell all of Nashville, Tennessee and granddaughter, Mandee Caldwell of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband who passed away in 2010, Mrs. Moorhead was predeceased by three infant daughters, four sisters, and three brothers.
