Miriam A. (McCarthy) Spillane, of Mashpee, formerly of Brockton, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 23, following a period of declining health. Born in Boston on May 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Livingston) McCarthy, and wife of the late Michael J. “Bunny” Spillane for 63 years.
Raised in Charlestown, a childhood she recalled with fond memories throughout her entire life, she was resident of Brockton for nearly 70 years prior to moving to Mashpee in 2000. A graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Brockton, Miriam was known for her lead roles in the school’s musical productions and as one of the fashionable “McCarthy twins” along with her sister Anne.
Miriam will forever be remembered for her warm and loving nature, incredible wit and keen sense of style, and was dedicated to making her home welcome to all. A homemaker for much of her life, Miriam was involved in many of her children’s parent-teacher organizations and school activities, especially during the formative years of Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton. She was an active parishioner of the former St. Edward’s and St. Margaret’s in Brockton, and in recent years attended Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee.
Miriam is survived by three children: Mona (Edward) Zander of Carmel, Calif.; Mark (Julie) Spillane of Norton; and Geoffrey of Mashpee. She was also the mother of the late Michael W. Spillane and sister of the late Anne Mirra. She leaves behind seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family would also like to express heartfelt and profound gratitude to Miriam’s dedicated caregivers, Sue Stone and Nancy Paccia, who provided compassionate care and companionship during her final days.
Visiting Hours will be held Thursday, December 27, 4-7pm in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 10:30am followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.
