Obituary

Mrs. Alvin H. Mandly, nee Eileen Ross of Dartmouth died on December 22nd. She was the wife of the late Captain Alvin H. Mandly.

Daughter of the late William J Ross and Bernice (Zyga) Ross, she attended New Bedford Schools, and graduated from Framingham State College. She received her Master’s Degree from Bridgewater State College. Eileen taught at the Dunbar School and the DeValles School for many years and the latter part of her career at Friends Academy.

An active member of Grace Episcopal Church, she served on the Rebuilding Committee, Vestry, Altar Guild and numerous other committees. She was active with the Ladies Branch of the N.B. Port Society, the N.B. College Club, the Old Dartmouth Historical Society, WHALE, and Friends of Festival Theatre. A former member of the New Bedford County Club, and St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, she served on the Camp Massasoit committee, was a Trustee of the former Glass Museum, a volunteer at the YWCA Next to New shop, and a member of the Marco Island Historical Society and Marco Island County Club.

She is survived by her three children – Jane of Fairhaven, William and his wife Ellen of Westport, and James and his wife Laurie of Juno Beach, FL, six grandchildren, Ross, Christopher, Leah, Ryan, Nick and Eric. She is also survived by her sister Beverly Haig of Worcester.

Visiting hours will be Friday, December 28th at the Wilson Funeral Chapel, 479 County Street, New Bedford, MA 02740 from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral Service to which family and friends are invited will be Saturday, December 29th, 11 am at Grace Episcopal Church, 422 County Street, New Bedford, MA 02740. Burial service will be private.
