Cornish - On December 20, 2018 Christine Frances Day, 92, peacefully continued on her journey from this world to the next one with her two oldest children by her side.
Christine was born in Waterboro, Maine on May 29, 1926. The daughter of the late Everett Leroy Woodward and Cecile Frances Davis. She was educated in Waterboro schools. Christine was predeceased by six of her siblings, Waneta, Elwin, Bernard & Bernette Murphy (twins), Kenneth, and Barbara Whitney Lacroix. She is survived by her youngest brother Walter.
On May 6, 1944, at the North Waterboro Community Baptist Church, she married Elwood B. Day. Elwood died 32 years earlier on December 19, 1986.
Christine and Elwood shared a home and built a family together on lower Main Street in Cornish. They had five children. The first was a boy, Elwood, Jr. who was stillborn in 1945. She is survived by the rest of their children and spouses: Wayne Everett Day and his wife Hazel of Cornish, Linda Iva Parker and her husband Harland of Cornish, Carolyn Jean Wood and her husband Dean of E. Baldwin, and Gayle Ann Small and her husband Clyde of Cornish. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Melanie Day Howard, Michelle Day Collomy, Matthew Day, MaLinda Day, Lynn Michelle Parker Gorham, Anthony Wood, Franklin Wood, Clyde Small Jr., Wilson Small, and Merlin Small; 3 step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Christine worked in the Limerick Yarn Mills in her earlier years and then later at the Fryeburg shoe shop. She and Elwood were members of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Patron and Worthy Matron. Christine took pride in her home and gave unconditional love to her family. She loved to braid rugs, crochet, make pies, garden, do canning in the fall, listen to the radio, and go to their camp lot on Long Pond. She also loved having a cup of tea every afternoon with friends who would stop by.
Christine and Elwood took a cross country road trip with their daughter Linda, her husband and daughter in 1985. The 3 week trip was an adventure to visit her sister Bernette who lived in California. Christine also got to do more traveling later in life after she re-connected with an old friend William E. Parker. They spent 6 years together before Bill’s death in 1995, and among many daytrips they also traveled to Nova Scotia and Florida.

A private family viewing was held at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home in Cornish. A graveside funeral will follow in the spring at the Riverside Cemetery in Cornish.
