LESLIE, Mary A. life-long resident of Jamaica Plain, MA, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2018 while with her family in Michigan. Daughter of the late Edward A. Leslie, Sr. and Elizabeth (McConn). Beloved sister of Edward A. Leslie and his wife Barbara and the late Phyllis Leslie. Mary is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews and their families: Paul Leslie (Xavier and Max), Beth Ann Markey and her husband John (Elizabeth, Thomas, Matthew, Mary Claire, Michaela, Isabella, Anna, and Margaret), Chris Leslie (Emma, Maddy, and Greta), Katherine Cerne and her husband John (Blaise and Kennedy), Matthew Leslie and his wife Mary (Seraphia), Lynn O’Donohue and her husband Mike (Joseph and Grace), and James Leslie.
Mary was born on August 26, 1930. She graduated from Mission High School in 1948 and was among the last graduating class at Teacher’s College, City of Boston in 1952. She then earned a Masters Degree in Education from Boston College. Mary was a dedicated educator of hundreds of Boston’s children during her 38 years of teaching. In June of 1990 she was honored with Boston City Council commendation that read, “Mary Leslie has inspired all who know her by her extreme dedication, her warmth, her spirit, and her outstanding ability to challenge all students”.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 29th in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 97 South Street, Jamaica Plain at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s name to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and Poor Clare Monastery, Jamaica Plain.
