LOWELL - Genesta J. (Berry) Gower, age 80, a resident of Chelmsford for over four decades, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, December 20 at Lowell General Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born in Machias, Maine, on January 12, 1938, one of seven children of the late Clifford and Arletta (Johnson) Berry, and raised in Machias. She had raised her family in Chelmsford before moving to Lowell sixteen years ago.
In addition to raising her four children, she worked as a secretary, day care provider for children, and later as a home-health aid.
She leaves her children, Rodney and his wife Virginia Gower of CA, Dana and his wife Judith Gower of Lowell, Linda and her husband James Miranda of Tewksbury, and Wendy Gower and her husband Stephen Roach of Newton, MA; nine grandchildren, Valerie Gower, Jennifer and her husband Greg Debow, Elizabeth Gower, Melissa Gower, Ian Gower, Jessica and her husband Jason Sigman, James Miranda Jr., Alicia Millward, and Gina Miranda; twelve great grandchildren, Evangeline, Arianna, Eric, Ethan, Sebastian, Elisa, Nathan, Kaley, Hailey, Jacob, Justin, and Julian; two great great grandchildren, Eli and Isaiah; two sisters, Donna and her husband Millard Dobbins of ME, Hildred McLean of Nashua, NH, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, the late Ray Berry, Leola Berry, Brian Berry and Karlene McLean. There will be no official services and she will be buried in Machias, ME.
