…U.S.A.F. Veteran; 91
TEWKSBURY - Arthur E. “Bunny” DeFilippo, age 91, a Veteran of the U.S. Berlin Airlift in Europe following WWII, died peacefully Wednesday morning, December 19, at Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus, after a lengthy courageous battle with Cancer. He was the husband of the late Jean (Dryden) (Wallace) DeFilippo, who died in 2013.
Arthur was born in Boston, October 31, 1927, one of five children of the late Matthew and Blanche (Peters) DeFilippo, and had lived in Tewksbury the greater part of his life.
Arthur enlisted into the U.S. Air Force on October 1945, served with the 1629th Air Base Squadron, and served in Bermuda and later Germany as part of the Berlin Airlift Campaign. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1949.
Arthur was a self employed owner-operator of tractor trailer rigs, and drove both local for Canada Dry and long distance hauling during his long career as a professional truck driver.
He leaves a sister, Arlene Taylor and her husband Brad of Hallandale Beach, FL; two brothers, Ronald DeFilippo and his wife Petch of Charlestown and Matthew “Butch” DeFilippo and his wife Patricia of Middleton; seven step-children, Daniel Wallace of FL, Sean Wallace and his wife Sue of Plaistow, NH, Patricia Wallace of CA, Debra Hobbs of Boston, Catherine Riendeau of Saugus, Theresa Wallace of FL, and KellyAnn oWallace of Woburn, and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Ciampa.
At his request, funeral services through the Tewksbury Funeral Home, were private.
