Mary E. Mahoney, a 50 year resident of Boston and formerly of Haverhill, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Leonard Florence Center in Chelsea. She was 85 years of age.
Mary was born in Haverhill on June 17, 1933, a daughter of the late Daniel J. Mahoney and Mary G. (Tannian) Mahoney. She grew up in Haverhill where she attended St. James Parochial School and graduated from St. James High School in Haverhill. Mary attended Merrimack College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She later received her Masters Degree in Education from Boston College. Mary worked as a Professor at Boston State College and later in the Admissions Department at the University of Massachusetts, Boston campus where she was a recipient of the Chancellor's Award. She was a member of many organizations, including the Beacon Hill Civic Association. Mary was also a generous benefactor for many charitable organizations.
Mary is the devoted sister of Reverend Daniel J. Mahoney, Pastor of St. Francis De Sales Parish in Charlestown and Chief Chaplain of the Boston Fire Department. She is the devoted "Irish Cousin" of Ann M. Tierney of Boston. She is the beloved cousin of the Mahoney and Tannian families.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's visiting hours on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 3 to 7 P.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Mary's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Her burial will be at St. James Cemetery in Haverhill.
