Gilbert Souza, Sr., 87, of Westport peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Dolores "Del" (Silvia) Souza, they were married for 63 years.
Born in Westport, son of the late Manuel and Mary (Cordeiro) Souza, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. Prior to retirement in 1994, he was a farmer for many years, then in 1969 he opened Hillside Motors in Westport with his wife. He was a Communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. Mr. Souza was one of the founding members of the Westport Fair and a member of the Future Farmers of Westport. He enjoyed spending time in his gardens, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
For those who knew Gil, he was a man of his word and his handshake meant everything.
Including his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters: Donna M. Souza of Westport and Debra L. Pelland and her husband Brian of Westport; 2 sons: Michael G. Souza of FL and Gilbert "Butch" Souza, Jr., and his wife Michelle of Westport; a brother: Robert Souza and his wife Charlene of FL; a sister: Delta Vieira and her husband Richard of FL; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Gerald and David Souza.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, December 28, 2018 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 10 A.M.
Calling hours will be Thursday 4-7 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
