Charles “Sonny” Earl Evans, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Friday, December 21, 2018, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Father Paul O’Connell and Deacon Ed Drexler officiating. Interment will follow in the Troupe Cemetery, in Ben Hill County. The family will receive friends, Friday, from 2 PM until 3 PM, at the funeral home.
Mr. Evans was born March 10, 1931, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Earl Alexander & Laura Beatrice Deen Evans. He lived in the community most of his life and served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He was a combat veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Evans was an engineer for the CSX RailRoad. He loved to fish, garden and drive his 1941 John Deere tractor. Mr. Evans enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister and brother. When visiting his sister and brother, they enjoyed eating and fishing at Hickory Bluff in Camden County. Mr. Evans was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Debbie Troupe & Jimmy of Fitzgerald; grandson, James Evan Troupe; granddaughter and her husband, Debra Leanna Carswell & Joseph; great-grandchildren: Anna Jane Carswell and Joseph Gamble Carswell; a sister, Julia Roland of Camden County and brother, Andrew Evans of Camden County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Data Jane Young Evans and daughter, Laura Charlene Evans.
