Obituary

Anne (Feeney) Medeiros of Acushnet entered into eternal life on Wednesday December 19, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. Anne was married for 57 years to Manny Medeiros.
Anne was born in Galway, Ireland to Sarah and Dan Feeney. On July 4, 1954, she arrived in America from Ireland following a trans-Atlantic voyage on the Mauritania. She loved sharing stories about this journey that included singing and dancing with her fellow travelers. She attended nursing school at the Lemuel Shattuck School in Boston and then began a 40 plus year nursing career at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She spent the majority of her nursing career caring for Orthopedic patients and was known for her joyous spirit and for singing to her patients.
During her years at St. Luke’s Anne made many lifelong friends that she loved dearly. These friendships continued throughout her life. You could often find them drinking coffee and eating breakfast at local restaurants as they relived the adventures of their youth.
Anne was very active in her faith community and was known for her loving devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was ordained by Bishop Daniel Cronin as a Eucharistic Minister and delivered the Sacrament of Communion to the sick. Anne prayed the rosary throughout the day and also participated in daily adoration to express her love for the Blessed Mother. Her faith was her anchor and she shared her love of God and the Blessed Mother with all those whose lives she touched. In November 2018, she was awarded the Marian Medal for her lifelong devotion and service to her church, St. Francis Xavier.
As her many family and friends know so well, Anne loved to make fudge and Irish fruitcake during the Christmas season and present as gifts to those she encountered and who meant so much to her. She loved to take her daily 5 mile walks, at a brisk pace, of course.
Survivors include her loving husband, Manny, four children Sean (Dina) of Raynham, Maureen of Boston, Kathleen (Patrick) Jay of St. Louis and Tara (Joseph) Oliveto of Medfield. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Gibbons of San Francisco and Tessie O’Connell of Galway, Ireland and her brothers Bart Feeney of Chicago and Tommy Feeney of Galway, Ireland. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in America and Ireland. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Richard Barrett (Kathleen).
Anne had eight beautiful grandchildren who were the loves of her life: Brianna and Evan Medeiros, Owen, Tully, Finn and Ainsley Jay, and Dillon and Keira Oliveto.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday December 22, 2018 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet at 10 AM. Burial will be in Acushnet Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday December 21, 2018 from 4-8 PM.
