Lois B. O’Hara, born January 22, 1930, in Medford, Massachusetts, died after a series of heart attacks and strokes in Winchester, on December 19, 2018. She was 88 years old.
She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1947 and from Emmanuel College in 1951. During her college years, she worked summers at the Colonial Arms in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Upon graduation, she went to work for Blue Cross of Massachusetts as a secretary/clerk and was soon promoted to be the secretary to the head of Blue Shield of Massachusetts, a position she held until her retirement.
Thereafter, she cared for her mother and older sister in the family home. For many years, she was a member of the Boston Chapter of the Sweet Adelines International, competing and judging at the national level. For decades, she volunteered as an aide to the administration of Emmanuel College and participated in the activities of the Alumnae Association. For many years, she served as class secretary, arranging class reunions and other events for her classmates.
She was predeceased by her father, Frederick M. O’Hara; and mother, Mary B. O’Hara.
She is survived by her sister, Marie R. O’Hara of Medford; brother, Frederick M. O’Hara, Jr., and his wife Linda of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; niece Laura O’Hara and her husband John Pierre of Pacifica, California; nephew F. Michael O’Hara, III, and his wife Elizabeth Moser of Chandler, Arizona; nephew Eoin J. O’Hara and his wife Heidi Meyer of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; nephew Keiran H. O’Hara of Ossining, New York; grandnieces Veronica and Madeleine O’Hara of St. Louis Park; and grandniece Lois Vermilion “Millie” O’Hara and grandnephew Miles F. O’Hara of Chandler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, 114 High Street, Medford at 11 AM on Saturday, December 22, 2018. Visitation will be held in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Saturday, prior to the mass, from 9 AM to 10:30 AM.
