Barbara Anne (Powderly) Smith, 85, of Walpole died December 17 in her home following a brief illness. She was the wife of Earl C. Smith for the past 65 years.
Born in Boston on October 24, 1933, the daughter of the late Hugh and Anne (Brennan) Powderly, Mrs. Smith had lived in Walpole for the past 70 years.
A homemaker, Barbara loved doing the Boston Globe crosswords, reading John Grisham books, gardening, doing puzzles, and animals of all kinds, especially Scottie dogs.
Barbara’s greatest joy was helping in the raising of her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Earl D. Smith and his wife Cindy of Walpole, Jean M. Cole and her husband Bob of Belfast, Maine and James D. Smith and his wife Sue of Walpole.
She is also survived by her sisters, Geraldine Bulman of Bridgewater and Patricia Zachary of Brockton.
Barbara was also the grandmother of Vanessa Smith, Alexandra Smith, Meaghan Smith, James Smith, Joseph Smith and Anna Cole.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 22 in the Ginley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 892 Main street, Walpole at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
