LIMERICK- Colleen Estelle Berry, was born in Limerick on May 6, 1930 to Charles and Mildred Lepage Sr., the 4th of 5 children. She passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2018 after a long illness.
She attended Limerick Schools, graduating in 1947. After graduation she worked in Old Orchard Beach. She married Hartley Berry Sr. in 1948 and had her first child in 1949. She worked at multiple jobs, including packing apples at Lord’s Orchards, the Limerick Shoe Factory and eventually settling in as the cook for the Limerick Elementary School and finally at the Line School in Newfield, where she worked until she retired. She was an active, lifelong member of the Limerick Congregational UCC Church.
She raised her two sons and then really did her best work when her grandchildren, Lonnie and Heather, were raised next door and she became “Little Nana”. She loved children and participated closely in her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives.
She and Hartley loved camping and in retirement enjoyed travelling out to Arizona, California and Washington to avoid the harshest parts of the Maine winters. She also loved reading, knitting, crocheting, Word Search and, of course, the Red Sox.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hartley Sr, her son, Timothy and her step son Hartley Jr.
She is survived by her son, Jeff Berry and his wife, Kathy of Kennewick, WA, daughter-in-law, Linda Berry of Oxford, ME, her grandchildren, Lonnie, Heather, Dylan, Katrina, Matt and Brittany, as well as a plethora of great and great-great grandchildren.
Special thanks and much love to her great granddaughter, Brittney Berry, who faithfully provided hours of loving care and companionship for her. Sincere thanks also to Meals on Wheels and the staff of Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am, followed by an 11 am funeral service on Saturday Dec. 29, at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish. Burial will be in the spring at Highland Annex Cemetery in Limerick.
