Virginia W. Dunagan, age 74, entered into rest on Sunday, December 16, 2018 while she was surrounded by her loving family.
Virginia was born in Fairfax, Alabama to the late Robert C. Walker and Callie Smith Walker. She was a lifelong member of Warren Baptist Church and she was a member of the Sorrells-Middleton-Dunagan Sunday School Class. She molded the lives of many children in the area through her time as a para-pro in numerous preschools and the nursery at Abilene Baptist Church. She was known affectionally in the community as “Mama”- she was constantly fixing collars, giving friendly haircut reminders, and keeping a check on Warren’s landscape. She enjoyed reading, word searches, cooking, gardening, and above all- shopping with QVC. Virginia will be remembered for her strong will, strong character, and her independence.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert “Bob” Lackey; and brother, David Walker.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Dunagan of Augusta; three children, Travis Lackey (Leigh) of Harlem, Cynthia Lackey Marshall (Trey) of Appling, and Angela Lackey Armour (Mack) of Lula; eight grandchildren, Tina King (Chip), Geoffrey Lackey (Lynn), Daniel Marshall, Josh Marshall (Shelbie), Tyler Gillis, Justin Hughes, Topanga Hughes, and Jonathan Marshall; two great grandchildren, Trey King, and Jensen King; and her best friend, Helen Grantham of Evans.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road.
A celebration of Virginia’s life will take place at 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the Chapel of Warren Baptist Church. Reverend David Dillard and Reverend Bret Legg will officiate. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. (Please note no services will take place on Wednesday.)
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia 30907.
