Obituary

Manuel "Manny" Sylvia, 92, of New Bedford died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long healthy and happy life. He was the husband of Deolinda (Pinho) Sylvia.

Manuel served in the United States Navy as a Signalman during World War II.

He was formerly employed by Hathaway-Braley Wharf Co. as an electrician for many years. Later he was self-employed, working as an electrician on the waterfront in the New Bedford area.

Manuel enjoyed bowling and was a longtime member of the Pop Casey's team, formerly the Acushnet Memorial Club. He also enjoyed going to the beach, swimming, traveling and dancing.

He is survived by his wife Deolinda; three children, Karen Sylvia-Simmons and her husband Bob, Stephen Sylvia and his wife Kellie, and David Sylvia and his companion Carol Rebello; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers John, Frank, and Antonio Sylvia and his sister Lucy Maty.

Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 2-5 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Funeral Service will be held at 4:30 PM, during the visitation. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
