TEWKSBURY - Aitkin F. “Att” Jarvis, age 69, a cartographer and illustrator died peacefully Wednesday morning, December 12, in the loving care of his family and hospice at his home, after a courageous six month battle with multiple heath issues. He was the beloved husband of Fran (Ciardi) Jarvis, with whom he had celebrated 50 years of love and marriage.
“Att” was born in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York on April 2, 1949, the only child of James D. and Marion (Jamison) Jarvis, raised in Bay Shore, and was a graduate of Bay Shore High School. He moved from Long Island to Somerville in 1973, and Tewksbury in 1981.
He worked as a technical illustrator for many publishers, and was best known for his Maps contained in the Dictionary of Cultural Literacy.
“Att” loved the outdoors, and was a weekly visitor to the Harold Parker State Forest in Andover and North Andover, where he was a member of the trail walking group.
Besides his wife he leaves two sons, James D. Jarvis and his wife Jilletta of Sandown, NH, and Jason D. Jarvis and his partner Nicole Pappas of Lowell; six grandchildren, William F. Jarvis, Rosalynde Jarvis and Quinn Jarvis all of NH, Justin Jarvis of TX, Daniel and Jenna Jarvis both of Saugus; and several nieces and nephews.
At his request funeral services were private.
The Jarvis Family is planning a Celebration of Life at the Elks Lodge, 777 South St, Tewksbury, MA 01876 on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 1 to 5 pm.
