Murray William 'Hefner' Lieber, 97, of Ventura, California, passed away on December 11, 2018, peacefully at home. Murray was born in Weehawken, New Jersey, to Nathan and Bessie Lieber, on March 05, 1921.
Murray received his Master's Degree in Music Education, quit his father's textile business, and set out to make his own path in the world.
His path took him to Georgia, where he ended up starting a music program with a Cherokee Tribe, for High School children on the Cherokee reservation. His next stop was California, where he worked for the Los Angeles school system. From there, he ended up being hired as a Music Teacher at Camarillo State Hospital. He rose within the ranks, eventually becoming the Hospital's Administrator.
Murray received many awards from his Toastmasters Club, which included; Best Evaluator, Best Table Topics, Best Speaker, and in 2014...Competent Communicator! Murray was a Virtuoso Pianist, he enjoyed Bowling with his Temple, and in 2010 he was awarded 'Man of the Year' by the Brotherhood of Temple Beth Torah. Murray was all about good nutrition, vigorous exercise, Love and Forgiveness. Murray was loved and known by many, and will be greatly missed.
Murray enjoyed many concerts, and visited many spiritual centers in Santa Barbara, Ojai, Ventura and Thousand Oaks with his wife Mary.
Murray is survived by his wife Mary Vickery-Lieber, his brother Paul Lieber in Florida, his daughter Lorrell Lieber, his stepson William (wife Kathleen), granddaughter Annie (husband Michael), great grandson Joseph, and many, many friends. Murray was proceeded in death by his first wife Pearl, and their daughter Lynn.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Becky and Randy Merin, the Assisted Hospice healthcare associates, P.T. Denetta, caregiver Martin, P.T. Jose, Nurse Sarah and Nurse Mel. Thank you for giving Murray such great care and comfort during his final journey home.
Family and friends are invited to Graveside Funeral Services to be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at 12:30 pm, with Rabbi Lisa of Temple Beth Torah. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura.
