Frances Nelson Dorminey, 86, of Chula passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Legacy Village in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mrs. Dorminey will be laid to rest at a later date. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 12, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born July 6, 1932 in Turner County, Mrs. Dorminey was the daughter of the late Murphy Nelson and Lois Sutton Nelson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Darrell David Dorminey. She graduated from Sycamore High School in 1949 and, then, attended Crawford W. Long School of Nursing and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She came back to Tifton and began her career of over 30 years as a nurse. Most of these years were spent at Tift Regional Medical Center, where she retired in 1990 at the position of Assistant Director of Nurses. She enjoyed reading, watching TV, sewing, growing violets and loved her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Dorminey is survived by her children, Gina Dorminey Sumner and husband, Leslie Sumner of Chula and David Dorminey of Doerun; two grandchildren, Abbey Sumner Sandifer and husband, Brant Sandifer of Athens and Stephen Sumner of Atlanta; and one great-grandson, Ezra Sandifer of Athens.
