WORCESTER___Florence E. (Proulx) Rivard, 91, of Worcester, died on Monday December 3, 2018 in UMass Memorial University Campus. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Joseph E. Rivard and by her daughter, Sharon A. Augusta.
She leaves two grandchildren, Adam Augusta and his wife Eva of Boston and Rayna Hanschen and her husband Karl of Dallas, TX; two great-grandchildren, Preston and Peyton; her son-in-law, Wayne Augusta of Okeechobee, FL; a brother, Albert J. Proulx and his wife Carol of Shrewsbury; a sister, Therese D. Porcaro of Boylston; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a brother, Jean and a sister, Mary Jane. Florence was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Bruno and Clara (Descoteaux) Proulx, and has lived here all of her life.
Mrs. Rivard was an accomplished seamstress and worked for several area companies. In one of her earliest jobs Florence helped create and assemble parachutes. She labored tirelessly with her husband on the construction of her Worcester home. In that home, she helped raise her daughter and grandchildren, hosted family gatherings, baked a myriad of family recipes, and continued her craft by reverse-engineering patterns, providing alterations, and making garments for her loved ones. Her garden was a prized family treasure, and she was exceedingly generous with the fruits thereof. That profound material generosity persisted through her twilight years, and was extended not only to family and friends, but also to the staff and owners of local businesses.
The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 12th from 1 to 3 pm in DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street. A prayer and remembrance service will be held during the memorial.
