Obituary


Robert (Bob) J. McDonough, 76, of Abington, MA died Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in West Roxbury after a nearly four year battle with multiple myeloma. He was born on June 7, 1942 in Flushing, New York to the late Ed and Bertha McDonough.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Kathleen (Dennehy Lambert), sons Robert and his wife Carol (Correia) of East Bridgewater, Jeffrey and his wife Nadine (Baroody) of Plymouth, Peter Lambert and his wife Courtney (Chrysslor) of Washington, D.C., and San Antonio, Texas, Michael Lambert of Singapore, and daughter Kerri (Lambert) Ranous and her husband Jim of Abington. He will be especially missed by his twelve grandchildren including Ryan, Matthew, Aiden, Connor, Hannah, Alexander, Pippa, Max, Maya, Nicholas, Jacob and Cameron, as well as his dear friends Ed Mace and Jim Prizio.

Bob was one of seven children raised in Abington, including the late Donald and his wife Rita, the late Patricia Darcy and her husband Gerry, as well as Michael and Maureen Whitehouse of Florida, Jim and his wife Lynne of Braintree and David of Abington.

Bob graduated from Abington High School in 1961, where he played football and baseball. He received an Associate’s Degree from Quincy College’s evening program several years later. He was a well known insurance agent, beginning his career with Liberty Mutual Insurance and in 1986 he founded Robert J. McDonough Insurance Agency of Abington. Prior to beginning his career, he volunteered to serve in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed many years in the Abington Little League and Plymouth Little League as a coach and umpire. A devoted Abington Rotarian, he was proud to serve as the club’s President in 2002-2003. His favorite pastimes included time with his family, golf, and following the New England Patriots and the New York Yankees.

Visiting hours will be at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman on Tuesday, December 11th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service, a celebration of a life well lived, on Wednesday, December 12th at 9:45 a.m. from the Chapel, followed by a funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 455 Plymouth Street, Abington. Burial will immediately follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Rockland.
