Obituary

Weyman Mobley, 81, of Irwin County, Georgia, died December 1, 2018, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County with Elder Harold Roberts and Elder Mickey Harris officiating. There will also be a time of sharing if someone wishes to share a story or special memory of Mr. Mobley. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary.

Mr. Mobley was born September 29, 1937, in Berrien County, Georgia, to the late Gilbert M. & Nell Dunn Mobley. He was a 1955 graduate of Irwin County High School and played baseball for the Gladys Gophers. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College where he played baseball and was named best dancer. He served his country honorably in the United States Army Reserves where he was a diver. Mr. Mobley began his career in agriculture at Tifton Tractor Company later working as district service manager for Massey Ferguson covering the southeastern United States. He made many friends in his travels and stayed in contact with them over the years. In the mid-1970s, he began farming full-time with his father and would spend the next 40 years working the land. Mr. Mobley was a genuine people person, he loved to dance, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and loved following NASCAR when Dale Earnhardt was racing. He was a member and 50-year Mason of Ocilla Lodge #134 F.&A.M. and a member of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karel McMillan Mobley of Irwin County; children and their spouses: Tracy Mobley Hancock & Tom, Leslie Mobley Young & Chris, and Scott Mobley, all of Irwin County; and grandchildren: Lauren Jade Mobley, Colby Mobley Jones, Cully Scott Jones, Walker Scott Mobley and Seth Thomas Young. Many nieces and nephews that also loved him dearly also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Evelyn Mobley McMillan.
