Martha Ann Holloway entered the Kingdom of Heaven on November 22, 2018, after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Martha was born in Monroe, LA, where she spent most of her childhood, with short stints in Orange, TX, and Washington State with her loving parents, James and Blanche Holland. During her teenage years Martha was active in dance and music and was a majorette in the marching band, a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, Camp Fire Girls, and Rainbow Girls.
After her marriage to Ray Sanderson and the birth of her eldest child, she moved east and graduated high school in Williston, SC, in 1954. She spent her adult years as an Augustan, marrying William E. Edwards, Sr. and, following his death in 1971, Perry D. Holloway, to whom she was married for almost 47 years.
Martha was a creative soul and entrepreneur founding Danté Beauty Salon and later Holloway House of Interiors after studying design at the Savannah School of Interior Decorating and Designing in the 1970s. She was president of Woodlands Gardens Club and won numerous awards at the Augusta Exchange Club Fair for her floral creations. She was a member of the same bridge club for almost 50 years. Martha was an avid camper and enjoyed several cross-country trips with Perry and annual trips with camper friends.
Martha was a devout Christian and a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and Grace United Methodist Church, a regular attendee at Whole Life Ministries, and active in the St. James United Methodist Church’s Griffin Circle. She also was an active volunteer with her husband at the Veteran’s Administration.
Martha was most proud of being a good daughter, wife, mother, grand- and great grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Perry; children Denise Allen (JP) of McDonough, GA, William Edwards, Jr. (Morri) of Dacula, GA, Sherry Dopp (Mark) of McLean, VA, and Sandy Dyches (Cliff) of Bamberg, SC; grandchildren Christopher Allen (Lisa), Davis Allen, Brandon Allen (Ashley) of Aiken, SC, Trey Edwards of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Parker Edwards (Brittney) of Augusta, and Kerrigan Dopp of Chicago; and five great grandchildren.
The family will be forever grateful to Pruitt Health Aiken for the loving care they provided to Martha, especially during the final days preparing for her ascendance into heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
